Einstein and a little history of Special Relativity:

Einstein, though proposed a better idea about gravity that SIR Isaac Newton discovered earlier, but Einstein also based his entire idea of Special Relativity by applying Plank's Equation E∝v (in Hertz) when h constant.

As such Einstein proposed a photon leaving a gravitational well loses its energy in transit and red-shifted, this means enlarges the wavelength towards red, in the relevant spectrum. Though this is Doppler Effect, but the specific energy-frequency, hence wavelength, relationship was experimented by Marx Plank in the year 1900 and established said energy-frequency relationship based in said equation, E∝v (in Hertz) when h constant.
But in later years Einstein though used this energy-frequency equation to decide said photons red-shifting, and hence the basic features of relativity, but he did not seems to acknowledge credit ability of Marx Plank - that does not seems to me a good moral in science. Einstein also ignored Alexander Friedmann's submission that showed universe can be expanding, George Gamow was the student of Alexander Friedmann.
Whatever may be the history, but time cannot be changed because it's fundamental property does not allow it to be influenced by gravity or by any other interactions.
Only events in the three dimensional universe are tracked by time in fourth dimension.

Note: What actually happened in the experiment as can be seen in the relationship λ∝T. The experiment actually considered dilated wavelength and not dilated time. If the experiment is considered that it observed dilation of time then it will violate fundamental properties of time. It rather miscalculated T instead of λ, because by appropriately changing either of the value of λ or even the value of T, one will get same result. But the illegality would be considering T as gravity affected factor instead of appropriately considering λ as the gravity affecting factor. A λ can be influence by gravity and change its wavelength but none can change T with the effect of gravity as time is not something changeable by any external influence or interaction unless such changes is in the structure of the events itself, then only time comes into a relative consideration with the changeable events. Time does not participate in any eventual act rather time tracks changes in the events. So a question of changing time is not only absurd but is illegal too as per valid definition and properties of time. Time dilation necessarily needs to be wavelength dilation, when λ∝T comes in to the consideration.
